Frederick Langsdorf, 86, of Wausau passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Wausau Manor.
He was born November 12, 1927 in Wausau to the late Edward and Lydia (Droegemueller) Langsdorf. After graduating in 1946 from Wausau Senior High School, Fred was a gas meter reader. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army for two years. Fred earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and Purple Heart.
On May 23, 1953, Fred married MarJorie Zarnke in Wausau. They lived on South 7th Ave with MarJorie working as an office manager for Wausau Gas Company and Fred working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office. He retired in 1987 after 27 years of service. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and golf. Fred was a member of Disabled American Veteran's Graveen Chapter #64 and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He also traveled to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight.
Fred was baptized into the Body of Jesus Christ on November 22, 1927, and we look forward to seeing him in the resurrection of all flesh. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church. Fred attended church faithfully and was a member of his church's Sunday morning Bible class. He served his Lord and his church as an elder, a recording secretary and other church positions.
Survivors include a niece, Patricia (Eugene) Sass of Leesburg, Fl, nephew, Randy Zarnke of Fairbanks, AK and cousins, Rev. Dr. Edgar (Becky) Krentz of Chicago, Ill, Florene Denninger of Fort Wayne, In, Edna (Ted) Levack of Des Moines, WA, Ellen Kay of Minneapolis, MN, Grace (Rev. Dennis) Pegorsch of Wausau, Rev. Carl (Marcia) Droegemueller of Maryville, MO, Rev. Paul (Wilma) Droegemueller of Giddings, TX, Rhoda (Rev. Karl) Davies of Highland, IN, godchild and cousin, Mark Droegemueller of Milton, WI and other relatives and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, MarJorie on August 23, 2011 and his sister, Lenora Langsdorf.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 19, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Townline Rd., Wausau. Reverend David Wetmore will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
