Gene Walter Kurth, 84, of Wausau, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born to Fred and Rose (Lambert) Kurth in Wausau on July 13, 1928. He grew up in Wausau and attended local schools. Gene served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II after he completed high school. In 1950, he married the former Marion Beatrice Steinke in Wausau.
Gene worked for over 43 years at the American Can Co. and later the James River Corp., including 18 years for the company in Newnan, Georgia.
He liked to be outside and spent summers at the cottage on Squirrel Lake. Gene golfed, fished, and hunted: he took every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. He also liked to play Yahtzee, bowled in a league, and would spend a lot of time reading. He was a Civil War buff and had a great interest in that period of our history. Gene liked to watch sports, especially the Packers. He always enjoyed a good meal.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marion; daughter, Diane (Doug) Neely of Sharpsburg, GA; son, Keith (Dawn) Kurth of Wausau; daughter-in-law, Kathy Kurth of Loganville, GA; eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd Kurth of Greshen, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ken Kurth; and sister, Ruth Boyack.
