George A. Digman, 95, of Wausau, died on Tuesday morning, March 8, 2011 at Wausau Manor. He was born May 19, 1915 in Wausau to the late Joseph and Cassandra (Trantow) Digman. George grew up in Wausau, attended schools here, and graduated from Wausau High School. At age 17, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, working as camp carpenter at the Mondeaux River camp, north of Medford. George also worked as a carpenter for his father's business, J.L. Digman Construction, and eventually took over and ran the family business, Digman Insulation & Supply, for fifty years. He married Henrietta Seehafer on November 20, 1937 in Wausau. She was by his side for fifty-five years and predeceased him in 1993. George was a generous man, to his family and to those in need. He was an extremely hard worker, and loved to "relax" at his cabin up north in Winchester. He most enjoyed doing anything he could outdoors, cutting wood, plowing snow, driving his caterpillar through the woods, hunting, and fishing. He was forever building and, in his later years, carving his memories into wood miniatures. George was a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ, was a church elder, and was very active on many of the church committees. George donated labor and building materials to several charitable causes over his lifetime, including camp buildings at the Wausau School Forest.
He is survived by sons, George (Gail) and Rodney (Barbara) of Wausau; grandchildren, David (Vicki) Erdman, Jr., Kaukauna, Amy (Mark) Rukamp, Florence, Jarrod (Jackie) Digman, Heather (Clint) Huffman, Amber (Jeremy) Lange, Lucas (Cheryl Thomas) Digman, Rochester, Minnesota, and Amanda (Ben) Shuda, Wausau; great-grandchildren, MaKenna and Dalton Erdman, Eric, Rachel, and Erin Rukamp, Xavier Digman, Elijah and Urijah Lange. He is further survived by his brother Robert (Joan) Digman, Spooner; nephews Rand and Dan, nieces Cindy and Julie; and former son-in-law, David (Sharon) Erdman, Sr.
George was preceded in death by his wife, and daughter, Gloria Erdman.
