George Jeske, 92, of Wausau passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at North Central Health Care Center.
He was born June 5, 1920 in the town of Eau Pleine to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Hekedish) Jeske. After graduating from Stratford High School, George attended UW LaCrosse to obtain a teaching degree. George met his future wife, Evelyn Winkler at a dance and later were married in Spencer on May 12, 1943. He was drafted into the Army during WWII where he served as a mechanic from 1944 until 1946. George and Evelyn farmed and later operated Jeske Cheese Factory in the town of Hamburg for 17 years. He then owned his own bulk milk hauling business until retiring. George was extremely athletic and loved playing baseball, football, bowling and darts. He even continued playing basketball and softball well into his 60's. George also enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Wausau, two sons, Jerome Jeske of Merrill, Jay (Jeri) Jeske of Wausau, three grandchildren, Jason Jeske, Lynn (David) Nest, Jordan Jeske, five step grandchildren, Eric, Cory, Brandon, Jesse and Shane, four great grandchildren, Cassandra, Emma and Evan Haack, Kaden Jeske, his brother, Otto Jeske of Marshfield and sister-in-law, Geraldine Jeske of Colby. George was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert and his wife Edna, Lawrence and Frank, one sister, Adeline Jeske and sister-in-law, Vivian Jeske.
