George Nowak, 84 of Rib Mountain passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Aspirus Hospice House.
He was born February 25, 1931 in Wausau to the late Theodore and Helen (Milbeck) Nowak. On June 11, 1955, George married Shirley LeGault at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. In 2013, he was proud to be able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. After his service in Korea, he returned to Wausau working at Marmet Corp working as a tool engineer. For over forty years George owned Mountain Archery which he operated out of his home. Many stories were swapped by the sportsmen who came to George for his knowledge of archery and his custom made arrows. He had a passion for simply being outdoors. In his earlier years, George could be found deer, goat, boar or bear hunting. When he wasn't hunting, George enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada, Michigan, Minnesota and at their family cottage on Bass Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Rib Mountain, two sons, Todd and Trent of Wausau, three grandchildren, Krystal (Steve) Doran, Nicole (Robert) Jeske and Lauren Nowak, four great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Khloe, Kylie and Lydia and son-in-law, Dale Bower of Holcomb. George was preceded in death by his son, Bradley "BJ", daughter, Kristi Bower and sister, Marion Giles.
Private family services will be held at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church, Wausau. Memorials may be directed to the family. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
