George Zahrt

August 28, 1920 — February 16, 2012

George W. Zahrt, 91, Easton passed away Thursday February 16, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born August 28, 1920 in Easton to the late Herman and Ida (Wenzel) Zahrt. On June 2, 1945 he married Marion Buth she preceded him in death April 14, 1962. Later in life he fell in love again, and on June 26, 1965 he married Shirley Busse, she survives.

George was a proud, but humble, generous man with a strong work ethic. He loved to socialize, and tell stories about his life. He was an active lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Easton and had a strong faith which he shared with his family. George was always putting others needs before his own, and will be remembered for his compassionate ways. George loved spending time with his family, especially on the farm and in the woods. He was a great family leader who everybody admired. George was also the family historian.

George farmed all his life, he purchased the family farm from his father in 1945, and it has been in the family since 1898. At age 14 he started logging, he continued logging until just recently. He loved his woodlots and working in them, especially the "80". He practiced timber and land management to improve them. George was proud of the work he had done, and often talked about future generations enjoying those woods. He was awarded "Tree Farmer Of The Year" in 1976.

George will be sadly missed by his children, LouAnn (Gene) Sorenson, Rothschild, Roger (Roslynn) Zahrt, David Zahrt (girlfriend, Deb), all of Easton, Robyn (Kurt) Gacke, Marathon; Grandchildren, Cara (Jason) Abt, Penny (Ryan) Mootz, Gina (Chris) Woodward, Troy (Carrie) Zahrt, Melanie (Jason) Neuendank, Ethan and Evan Gacke; Great Grandchildren, Cole and Cade Abt, Bekah and Zach Mootz, Vanessa Woodward, Lochlin Zahrt, Anna and Dylan Neuendank.
