Gerald Hintze

Gerald Edward Hintze, 72, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born to Edward and Freida (Hetzel) Hintze on November 30, 1940, in Wausau.
Gerald was described as a grizzly bear on the outside and a teddy bear on the inside. He loved and cared for his children and especially his grandchildren. He was always doing something with his family, whether it was having all of his grandchildren over, family cookouts, or playing a practical joke on someone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching stock car races, wrestling or the Brewers. He spent many hours working on model trains and was also a member of the model train club at the Wausau Historical Society.
He worked most recently at LignoTech in Rothschild as a dock worker. Gerald proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the time leading up to the Vietnam War.
Gerald is survived by his children, Laura Rothmeyer of Wausau, Ronald Hintze of Schofield, and Brian Hintze of Wausau; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter (Pamela) Hintze and Gordon (Judy) Hintze; four nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Freida; son, Todd Hintze; and sister, Sharon Holcomb.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau, with Rev. Philip Schneider officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau, with military funeral honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and V.F.W. Burns Post #388.
