Gerald A. Worden, 87, of Wausau, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Marywood Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice. He was born to the late Ava and Clara (Giese) Worden on June 24, 1924 in the Town of Weston. Gerald graduated from Wausau High School and enlisted in the Navy. He served his country for three years on submarines. After returning home from the Navy Gerald attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Gerald eventually met his wife, Irene, after his schooling and they were married on June 19, 1948 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine River.
Gerald was an International Representative for the United Paper Workers. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church since 1953 and was the President of the school board of Our Savior's School. He loved and enjoyed his family very much, especially spending time together at the cottage on Big Spirit Lake. Gerald liked the outdoors and spent time fishing, hunting, and golfing. He was an excellent father, grandfather, and husband.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Carol (Robert) Kent of Bayfield, Mark (Kathleen) Worden of Largo, FL, Jerry (Jeannie) Worden of Kronenwetter, and Matt (Britt) Worden of Minnetrista, MN; grandchildren, Michelle (Robert) Frueck of Milwaukee, Kara Kent of Lawrence, KS, Patrick Kent of Ashland, Eric (Danielle) Worden of Billings, MT, Jaci Worden of Madison, Emily Worden of Kronenwetter, Danny Worden of Kronenwetter, Anna Worden of Minnetrista, MN, and Seth Worden of Minnetrista, MN; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Arline Shopper of Minnesota; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Worden of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerome Allen Worden; a granddaughter, Alisabethe Kent; seven brothers, Kenneth, Melvin, Clarence, Lawrence, Vernon, William, and Leon; and two sisters, Brigetta Traska and Nancy Jeanson.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 703 Flieth St., Wausau, with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Friends and family may call beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with Military Funeral Honors by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10.
