Gerhard Borth

Gibby was born October 27th 1916, in Wausau, WI, the son of the late August and Selma (Plautz) Borth. He served in the Army, doing clerical work in Italy, and Northern Africa, during World War II. On September 14th 1946, he was united in marriage to Ione J. Zarnke. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He began his career at 1st American Bank as a bank teller and worked his way to becoming a loan officer.

Gibby was very thankful for the life he was given. He believed in giving to others and being as helpful as he could. He shared his talents through volunteer work, participating in Kiwanis, and serving in his church. Gibby was proud of his family, always concerned about how they were doing. He was a talented woodworker, passing his passion onto his son, Peter, and grandson, Kevin. Gibby greatly enjoyed golf and also bowling in his younger years. He was the city champ in 1942.

At the age of 94, Gerhard August Borth died on October 3rd 2011, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ione Borth; 3 children, Terry (Penny) Borth, Chandler, AZ, Peter (Elaine) Borth, Maple Grove, MN, and Ben (Carol) Borth, Monument, CO; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy; and daughter, Becky.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, October 10th, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The Reverend Paulette Creswell will officiate. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Family will receive guests from 11:00 a.m. until the service, at the funeral home.
