Gerhardt Theodore Hubert Helmke, 89, of Wausau, formerly of Merrill, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Marywood Convalescent Center.
Gerhardt was born February 13, 1921, in the town of Hamburg, to the late Martin and Esther (Hass) Helmke. On October 3, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Jean Luella Pickruhn, in the town of Berlin.
Survivors include his daughter, Leanna (Ted) Rusch, of Stevens Point; 2 sons, Gary Helmke, and Dale (Jill) Helmke, both of Wausau; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, on October 27, 2009; and sister, Dorothea Sense.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The family will receive guests the day of the service, at the funeral home, beginning at 1:00 p.m., until the service.
