Gilbert Holtz

Gilbert A. Holtz, 83, of Wausau, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Our House Memory Care under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born to the late Ernest and Edna (Raddatz) Holtz in Wausau on September 25, 1927. Gilbert married the former Elaine Schultz on October 2, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. Gilbert was employed at Marathon Electric for 35 years as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 1990.
Gilbert was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. He enjoyed carpentry and carving birds. His family has been able to appreciate the detailed carving that Gilbert performed in the over 100 birds that he completed. He also liked to spend his time cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, and bowling.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Elaine (Schultz); children, Jane (Paul) Ebeling of Denmark, WI, Randall (Ann) Holtz of Wausau, Daniel (Monica) Holtz of Eau Claire, and Gregory (Carol) Holtz of Wausau; grandchildren, Christine (Pat) Quinlan, Kevin (Andrea) Ebeling, Beth (Andy) Murkowski, Heidi Holtz, Adam (Laura) Holtz, and Amy (Josh) Murdock; step-grandchildren, Christopher Cloutier, Angela Cloutier, and Kent Cloutier; nine great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Gerhardt (Elaine) Holtz of Wausau; three sisters, Velma (Stanley) Schultz of Owen, Viola (Gerald) Seidler of Wausau, and Doris (Raymond) Zunker of Athens; sister-in-law, Karen Schultz of Fairfax, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau, with the Rev. Philip Schneider officiating. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Helke Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday at 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
