Gladys Mae Schulz, 80, Wausau, died Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Aspirus Hospice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Gladys was born October 25, 1937 in Wausau to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Letarski) Barnish. She was a graduate of Wausau High School. Gladys married Gerald Schulz on June 25, 1957 at the St. Michael’s Rectory. The couple was blessed with six children: Carol, Brian, Barbara, Keith, Karen, and Kathy. Although she did work outside the home, her greatest love was being a devoted mother to her children. After 46 loving years together, Gerald died on May 2, 2004.
Gladys was a very strong and kind woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She never had a harsh word to say about another and will be forever remembered as the ultimate matriarch who loved everyone. Her family went well beyond her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and grand-dogs; Gladys would include all into her heart. She was well known for being a great cook, especially her delicious potato salad. For over 40 years, Gladys enjoyed heading up north to the cottage for campfires, fishing and playing cards with friends and family.
Gladys is survived by her children, Carol (Bill) Stannard, Brian (Cindy) Schulz, Barbara Woller, Keith (Nancy) Schulz, Karen (Bill) Carr, and Kathy Dugger; grandchildren, Kelly Jo, Jeremy, Justin, Jared, Jenna, Nathan, Brianna, Brent, Amber, Keigan, Kaulen, Brenden, and Evan; 3 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
The funeral service for Gladys will be at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Helke Funeral Home. Fr. Robert Thorn will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Entombment will be at Restlawn Mausoleum. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements; you may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Aspirus Hospice House.
A special word of thanks goes to the nurses and staff of the Aspirus Hospice House for their compassionate care for Gladys during her final days. Heartfelt appreciation to Gladys’ neighbors and friends who helped her for many years while she lived at home.
