Goldie Alvina Boettcher was born November 12, 1916 in the Town of Pine River to the late Henry and Olga (Blair) Boettcher. She married Raymond Pagel on February 10, 1934 at Saint Stephens United Church of Christ in Merrill. The couple worked together on the family farm while raising their three children, Gerald, Patricia and Linda. Goldie began working for Marathon Rubber Plant and continued for about 17 years before moving on the Marathon Electric and working in their shipping department. She stayed with Marathon Electric for 33 years, retiring in 1979 and became a member of the Marathon Electric Quarter Century Club. Throughout their lives together, the couple traveled all over the world visiting Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Israel and Alaska. Goldie and Raymond celebrated 48 wonderful years together prior to his death on September 20, 1982.
Goldie was a very hard working and ambitious woman. Even after retirement, she continued to stay very active with AARP, the 55 Plus group, Polka Club and Good Timers. She was a devoted member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, volunteering in the Woman’s Guild and the Ladies Aid where she loved to quilt. In her free time, Goldie enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and fishing with her husband on Lake Nokomis. Goldie Alvina Pagel, 93, Wausau, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Wausau Manor under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Goldie is survived by her children, Gerald (Joyce) Pagel of Wausau, Patricia (Dennis) Bauman of Oshkosh and Linda (Ralph) Nass of Wausau; grandchildren, Debra (Bruce) Stang, Tim Deacy, Clark (Donnell) Pagel, Sue Pagel, Lori (Dan) Brandt, Christopher Nass, Chad (significant other, Darchelle) Nass, Travis Nass and Justin (fiancé, Kimberly) Nass; great-grandchildren, Danielle (Nate) Potratz, Ryan Deacy, Bethany Deacy, Jessica (Todd) Miskowski, Joshua (Rachel) Pagel, Jason Brandt, Olivia Brandt, Abrielle Nass and Kolton Nass; great-great-grandchildren, Addison Miskowski and Brooklyn Pagel; and many more extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Norman Boettcher; and grandchildren, Denise Deacy and Todd Pagel.
Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Wausau. Reverend Phil Schneider will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM at the church on Thursday and last until the time of the service. There will be a private burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.
