Grace Schewe

Grace was born September 23rd 1921, the daughter of the late Hugo and Hertha (Goetsch) Hoppe. She was a lifelong resident of the Wausau area, attending local schools prior to her high school graduation. On September 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arthur Schewe. Together they raised their three sons, Richard, Donald, and James; and enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage. Grace also worked as a secretary at Stolen Tire and as the office manager for the Bishop of the district Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Being involved in St. Stephen Lutheran Church was vital to Gracea�(TM)s life and faith. She was a member of the Women of Church, worked in the church library for over 30 years, attended National Church Conventions, enjoyed the fellowship of the quilting guild and served in the Rachel Circle. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and especially the card club gatherings.

Grace Dorothy Schewe died, November 22nd 2011, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Wausau.

She will be lovingly remembered by her 3 sons, Richard (Phyllis) Schewe, Big Pine Key, FL, Donald (Marlene) Schewe, Wausau, and James (Mary) Schewe, Tomahawk; 5 granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in May 2000; brother, Roger Hoppe; and sister, Jean Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 28th, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Reverend David Klutterman will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Family will receive guests Sunday, November 27th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau; and again Monday, at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Colonial Manor Nursing Home, and Harmony Assisted Living Centers for the care and comfort provided over the past several years.
