Gregory S. Wegner, age 76, passed away at his home in Wausau, Wisconsin, on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Greg was born on June 25, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Robert and Vivienne (Granzow) Wegner. He graduated from Oswego High School and later attended Northern IL University. A proud patriot, Greg enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman. He had a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting—interests he enthusiastically shared with his daughters. His legendary fishing stories always included a catch that was “bigger,” even if it couldn't always be proven. Time spent on the lake with his buddies, affectionately known as “The Gang,” brought him immense happiness. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and the fellowship that came with it.
A man of faith, Greg was a member of Highland Community Church, where he participated in Bible studies and prayer groups that deepened his spiritual life and connected him with his church family. His life verse is Psalm 23.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Chitko) Wegner; and dog Cali. His daughter, Lindsey (Corey) Pierce and their son Gavyn. His daughter Jenny (Glenn) Wegner. His brother, Grant (Sheri) Wegner. His stepson, Ryan (Cindy) Houge and their children Christian, Kaja, Josie, and Ally. His stepson, Jacob (Zoe) Kerwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest daughter Tammy.
Greg will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and grandpa for his generous spirit, hearty laugh, and the endless stories he loved to tell—often more than once. He had a big heart and never hesitated to lend a helping hand.
Greg’s warmth, strength, and humor will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th at Highland Community Church in Wausau, from noon to 1:30 p.m., with a celebration service to follow.
