Gretchen Wurster, 85, of Wausau passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Sylvan Crossing on Evergreen, Wausau.
She was born December 19, 1927 in the town of Easton to the late Arthur and Selma (Hackbarth) Beck. Gretchen married Daniel Wurster on October 2, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church, town of Easton. While raising their four children in Wausau, Gretchen was a bookkeeper for several area businesses and Daniel worked at Wausau Papers. When he retired in 1982, Gretchen and Daniel moved to their lake house on Lake Nakomis in Tomahawk. They loved the "lake life" where Gretchen especially liked watching and feeding all types of wildlife. They were active members and volunteered at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tomahawk. Gretchen also kept busy working part time at Treehaven.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Roger) Reichert of Sheboygan, three sons, Jim (Debbie) Wurster of Wausau, Terry (Linda) Wurster of Sister Bay, Tom (Nancy) Wurster of Madison, Jan Wurster of Sun Prairie, seven grandchildren, Max and Samantha Reichert, Josh and Jared Wurster, Dan Howard, Jeff (Lindsey) Wurster, Kristin (Aaron) Koepke, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Margaret Zimmerman of Colorado Springs, CO. Gretchen was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel on March 23, 1997 and her brother, Milton Beck.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Chris Sansom will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from Noon until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
