Harvey was born November 3, 1918 in Wausau to the late Albert and Anna (Braun) Borth. He met Vila “Vi” Goetsch during study hall while attending Wausau High School from which they both graduated. They dated for five years before marrying August 17, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Harvey was drafted in July 1944 and served in the 82nd Airborne in the Glider Infantry during the later part of WWII and during the occupation of Germany until he was discharged in 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Returning home, Harvey and Vi were blessed by the births, first of Bruce and then later Cynthia “Cindy”. Over the years, Harvey and Vi enjoyed bowling, playing cards and yahtzee. During their life together, the couple designed and built three homes in the area. Throughout his life, Harvey was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1982, he retired after over 30 years of working as an accountant for American Can. The past three years saw Harvey’s health waning, but Vi lovingly cared for him at home so that they could remain together. Harvey died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at the age of 91, at the Hospice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
Harvey is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Vi; children, Bruce (Bonnie) Borth and Cindy (Michael) Plant; grandchildren, Bryan (Sharon) Borth, Ben (Tracy) Borth, Kelly (Wade) Puntney, Chris Plant and Matt Plant; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Justan, Andrew, Aaron, Abigail, Lana and Ethan; and many more extended family and dear friends.
