Henry Borchardt Jr. was a true man of the land. Born and raised on his family’s town of Wien dairy farm, Henry and his wife Bernadine continued the Borchardt farming tradition until retiring in 1990.
At the age of 87, Henry passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
On March 11, 1922, Henry was born to the late Henry and Ottillie (Remus) Sr. In his youth, he helped with chores while attending grade school. On May 31, 1941, Henry married Bernadine Fandre at the parsonage of St. John Lutheran Church, Edgar. He was an active member of the church and also a life member of the Fenwood Lion’s Club. His pastimes included deer hunting, fishing, playing Sheepshead, shaking dice, and listening to Polka Music.
Henry loved spending time with his family and will be sadly missed by his wife, Bernadine, his children, Bonnie (Kenneth) Laessig of Rothschild, Lowell (Audrey) Borchardt of Edgar, Randy (Joan) Borchardt of Hayward, Cindy (John) Schkirkie of McFarland, Penny Borchardt of Wausau, seven grandchildren, Mike (Barb) Borchardt, Lori (Jesse Ladwig) Laessig, Kent (Connie) Laessig, Jay (Penny) Borchardt, Danielle (Courtney) Schreiner, Pam (Jeff) Kyhos, Shannon (Dan) Graveen, and eleven great grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugo and Gerhardt and seven sisters, Selma, Olga, Esther, Ella, Mildred, Alma, and Emma.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hwy N., Edgar. Reverend Gail Sowell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
