Henry Heitl

Henry Heitl, 88, of Wausau passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Marywood Convalescent Center.
He was born February 12, 1923 in Wausau to the late Henry and Selma (Hoffmann) Heitl. After graduating from high school, Henry enlisted U.S. Army serving in WWII from 1943 until 1947. He fought during the Central European and Rhineland battles. Henry was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10 and a Life Member of the VFW Burns Post #388. On June 17, 1950, he married Ruth Andreski at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. They made their home on Maple Hill Road where Henry worked as a printer for the Wausau Daily Herald for 27 years. Henry enjoyed playing golf at the American Legion, watching sports on TV and in his earlier years, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara Maltus, a brother, Leroy "Howard" Heitl and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Ruth on April 15, 1976, five sisters, Gladys Wichman, Dorothy and Grace Heitl, Ruth Beck, Pearl Schmitt, and one brother, George.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Keane Foster of St. Paul's United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery with full military honors conducting by the American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from Noon until the time of services.
