Hildegard "Hilda" Clara Marcis, 97, of Wausau, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Benedictine Living Community in Wausau.
Hilda was born July 10, 1917 in South Milwaukee, WI to the late Andrew and Agnes (Luebbe) Richter. On October 12, 1940, in Junction City, WI she was united in marriage to Carl Marcis who was a childhood neighbor in the Town of Guenther. They celebrated 70 years together until Carl's death in March of 2011.
The couple farmed together in Mosinee, WI raising their family and instilling in them a strong work ethic, good values, and teaching them how to make the best out of what you have. In 1967, they moved to Wausau where they didn't have fields to farm but instead they now only had a yard and also a little more free time. It didn't take long and they began to beautify their yard. Hilda grew beautiful varieties of flowers and she had the touch that produced big, gorgeous blossoms and the yard was filled with color. Hilda also worked at Wausau Insurance where she retired in 1982.
Hilda was always keeping herself busy whether it be with gardening, sewing, crafts, cooking & baking or volunteering. She was an active member at St. Mark's Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She helped with Orphan Grain Train making many quilts for those in need and volunteered her time helping at Bethesda Thrift Store for many years. Hilda also always made time for her family who she loved dearly. At family gatherings Hilda's cooking and baking skills were something to look forward to especially her German potato salad and her delicious desserts.
Hilda is survived by her children, Charles (Eleanore) Marcis of Stratford, Ken (Carolyn) Marcis of Mt. Dora, Florida and Kristine (Randy) Riehle of Edgar; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Marquard of Eagle River, WI and a sister-in-law, Lucille Richter of Mosinee; and many more extended family and friends.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, and siblings, Robert, Martha, and Alma and daughter-in-law Donna.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Drive, Wausau, with Rev. Bruce Lamont officiating. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Mosinee Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
