Ione Strek

April 24, 1926 — May 23, 2009

Ione Strek will be remembered for the love and care she gave her family. Taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, knitting and crocheting to keep their feet warm, Ione was always there for them. She was proud of her heritage and did extensive research on family history. Ione was a high energy person with interests that included traveling, sewing, gardening, animal and bird watching. She loved to spend time at the cottage in Phillips and the cabin in Port Wing with her special friends Bob and Holly Carlson.

Ione passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Hospice House at the age of 83. She was born April 24, 1926 in Wausau to the late William and Katherine (Sann) Tress. On May 19, 1945, she married LeRoy Strek at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Parsonage in Wausau. LeRoy and Ione built their home on North Sixth Street where they raised their family. Ione was a member of the Riverview Homemakers Club and the Ladies Circle of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a charter member.

Survivors include her husband, LeRoy of Wausau, daughter, Sharon Hieb of Wausau, son, Charles (Donna) Strek of Mosinee, four grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Ricklefs, Barry Hieb, Scott (Tanya) Strek, Troy Strek and fiancée Laura Flohr, two great grandchildren, Hunter and Brandon Ricklefs. Ione was further preceded in death by an infant brother, Harry Tress and son-in-law, John Hieb.
