Irene M. Gust, 93, passed away early in the evening on Friday, March 18, and is now with her beloved Bill.
Irene was born on June 27, 1922, in Wausau, to Leo and Adela (Henning) Imm. She attended Woodland Dale School for one year, after which her parents bought a farm in the town of Maine. She attended Church Hill School through the eighth grade. When her parents sold the farm Irene moved with them to Wausau and attended the Wausau Tech. After graduating she worked at Pied Piper Shoe Company in the office.
She met William "Bill" Gust through mutual friends and on January 12, 1955, they were joined in marriage. Irene continued to work until the birth of their daughter, Jane, and settled in as a stay at home mother and wife.
Irene returned to the workforce as a short order breakfast cook at George's Restaurant. She retired from there after more than 20 years, and she spent retirement with Bill visiting friends and family, and attending her grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, word puzzles, and most of all, her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mark Brandt; three grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Waldvogel, Jennifer (Jeremy) Gruna, and Gregory (Renee) Brandt; four great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Jacob, Miles, Joshua, and Parker.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, of 60 years; her parents; infant brother, Martin; and her twin-sister, Irma.
She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Larry) Toelle, Joyce Engel, Phyllis (Gordon) Knutson, and Edie Achee; and brother-in-law, Walter (Carolla) Gust.
