Irene Rasmussen

Irene Rasmussen, 94, formerly of Wausau , died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Grace Lodge Assisted Living in Rhinelander.

Irene Esther Dettmering was born June 27, 1914 in Merrill to the late Gustav and Anna (Helemstader) Dettmering. She married LaVerne Meyers on June 20, 1935 and they celebrated twenty-four wonderful years together prior to his passing in 1959. Irene later married Donald P. Rasmussen on February 7, 1963 and they celebrated twenty-nine loving years together.

Irene was a member of the Elkettes, American Legion Auxillary, Wausau Lions, St. Paul ’s Literary Society, and St. Paul ’s United Church of Christ. Irene was also an employee of 15 years at Wilson Hurd.

Irene’s family always came first and she loved spending time with her son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also delighted in entertaining her extended family and many friends at her home. She also enjoyed many happy times up north at the lake over the years. Irene was an avid gardener and her beautiful flower garden gave her much enjoyment. She also enjoyed traveling. Her travels took her across the United States and as far as Japan . Playing cards with her friends each week was also a great pleasure and she enjoyed bowling at the Elk’s lodge.

Irene is survived by her son, Ronald Meyers of Eagle River; three grandchildren, Russell (Julie) Meyers, Laura (Norman) Arbogash, and John (Lisa) Meyers; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany (Kevin) Sundblad, Lisa (Ben) Hall, and Nicholas Meyers; brother, George Dettmering; sister, Elaine Kufahl,; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Gary; brothers, Vernon , Norman , Raymond and Lawrence ; and sisters, Lula, Eleanor and Marion.
