Irene Stubbe, 85, of Wausau, died Tuesday January 12, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Irene was born July 31, 1924 in Athens, to the late Steven and Mary (Obermeyer) Jakubowski. She married Ernest Stubbe on May 15, 1943 in Athens. Ernest preceded her in death on July 8, 1996. Irene was an elevator operator for the Hotel Wausau for many years. She also cooked at many different Wausau area restaurants and every restaurant she cooked for she was known as “grandma”. Her baked goods were legendary. Irene was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for over 35 years at G.D. Jones Elementary as well as a member of the Mother’s Club. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters; Bette Lane of Wausau, Stephanie (Roger) Neitzke of Weston, Carol (Gary) Gilles of Merrill and Earleen (Dennis) Fox of Merrill, two sons; Gary (Rose) Stubbe of Mosinee, and Gene Stubbe of Wausau, 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 brothers; Francis, Steven and George Jakubowski.
Irene was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Raymond and LeRoy and one son-in-law Richard Lane.
The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday January 15, 2010 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. Officiating will be Father Gerry Pehler OFM Cap. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
