James Joseph Franklin, 85, of Rothschild passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at his home in Rothschild.
Jim was born September 10, 1931, in Wausau, WI, son of the late William and Leona (Weinberger) Franklin. He received his education in Wausau where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI, graduating with a General Studies degree. He then entered the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to Wausau.
On August 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jean McCabe at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wausau. Jim and Jean made their home in Wausau where he worked as a milkman for Schneider Dairy, Leath Furniture before his employed at Kraft Foods, where he retired.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a member of Church of The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Salvation Army disaster team and was very active in the REACT.
He is survived by two sons, William (Sarah) Franklin and Mark (Tammy) Franklin both of Weston, WI, a daughter Cheryl Steder of Wausau, a daughter-in-law Diane Franklin of Wausau, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jean on April 4, 2016, a son Alan Franklin and three brothers, Bernie, Gerald and John.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 North 2nd Street, Wausau with Father Robert Schaller officiating, burial will follow with military rites at Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St. Wausau after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
