James Marquardt

James Henry Marquardt, 78, Town of Maine, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Jim was born March 15, 1938 in Wausau, WI, son of the late Henry and Dora (Koenig) Marquardt. He graduated from Wausau High in 1956. On October 8, 1961, Jim married the love of his life Lynn Voeltzke. The couple moved to Fort Lewis, Washington when Jim was stationed there during the Berlin Crisis. They moved back to the Town of Maine and settled into their life as dairy and ginseng farmers while raising their sons; Thomas and Brian.


Jim was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. Free time was spent playing the organ, accordion and spending time at the family cottage on Somo Lake. His greatest joy was being with his family and grandchildren, watching them play sports and raising animals to show at the fair.

Jim is survived by sons, Thomas (fiancé, Debra Witman) Marquardt and Brian (Amy) Marquardt; grandchildren, Collin, Carson, Mariah, Dylan and Henry; a sister Irene (Don) Dau, sister-in-law's Phyillis Marquardt and Gail (Frank Balistreri) Sullivan; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynn on October 20, 2015, and a brother Wallace.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, March 6, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church ELCA, Town of Maine. Pastor Dan Sire will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau; resuming on Monday at 10:30 AM until the time of service at the church.
