Jane Merwin

Jane Lou (Oatman) Merwin, 66, passed away in Wausau, Wisconsin, on November 10, 2013, after an extended battle with cancer.

Jane was born on January 22, 1947, to Willis and Eileen Oatman. She was raised in the Shawtown neighborhood of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, along with her sister, Carol, and brothers, Tom and David. She was outgoing and active in sports, especially softball, and enjoyed spending time with her siblings at her family's lake cottage.

She married Ralph Merwin and moved to Wausau where she raised two sons, Paul and Philip. In 1972, Ralph and Jane founded Consolidated Building Service with John Hahn, where they worked together for 37 years.

Jane stayed active and outgoing throughout her life. Ralph and Jane's home was a social hangout for old and new friends, and Jane was a welcoming hostess. Jane's loves included laughing, storytelling, going to their cottage up north, bowling, international travel, and bragging about her granddaughter.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Philip, whom she missed terribly. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; sister, Carol; brothers, Tom and David; son, Paul, and his wife Janelle; granddaughter, Aria; nieces, Kathy, Angie, and Nicole; nephew, Sean; grand-nieces, Katlyn, Taylor, Shayla, and Ayla; and grand-nephew, Gavin.

The family is grateful to the staff at the Aspirus Hospital, Cancer Center, and Hospice House for the kind care they provided.

A visitation will be held at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, on Friday, November 15, 2013, beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Rib Mountain, on Saturday, November 16, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Craig Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas, on Monday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m.
