Jerald E. Wagner, 71, formerly of Wausau, died Tuesday, July 13, 2009 after a short battle with brain cancer at the Hospice House, Wausau under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
Jerry was born December 17, 1937 in the Town of Day to the late Alex and Hattie (Hofensperger) Wagner.
He attended school in Stratford and graduated in 1955.
Jerry served in the Navy from 1955 until 1959.
He married Karen L. Schubring on April 15, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau.
Throughout his life he worked as an over the road trucker for various firms, such as Wilson Hurd, Wausau Homes, Wausau Tile, Wausau Metals, and Hoffer’s Coating.
Jerry and Karen lived in Wausau until retiring in 1999.
They then spent their summers on Pier Lake in Tripoli, WI and the winters in Texas.
Jerry’s hobbies included traveling, gardening, gambling, and repairing garden tractors.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Karen of Tripoli; children, Allison (Curt) Egner of Minneapolis, MN, Todd (Heidi) Wagner of Arden, NC, Nancy (Dennis) Zahurones of Deerbrook, and Jerald (Pam) Wagner of Shawano; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marion (Duane) David of Marshfield, Al (Adeline) Wagner of Ogden, IA, Dorothy Bernas of Minneapolis, MN, Leona (John) Schutt of Hastings, MN, and Rosie (John) Hermann of Northboro, MA; sister-in-law, Barb Rajek of Wausau; brother-in-law, Glenn (Louann) Schubring of Wausau; his beloved cat, Mikey;
and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Clarence Schubring; brother-in-law, Rudy Rajek; and a nephew, Mark Bernas.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau.
Pastor Sean Motley will be officiating.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM and last until 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and resume at 9:00 AM on Thursday lasting until the time of services at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Mechanic’s Ridge Cemetery.
Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10.
In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Hospice House in Wausau or the Hope Lodge in Marshfield.
