John Cleveland

John Clayton Cleveland, 48, Wausau, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at his home.

John was born December 26, 1967 in Wausau to Russell and Marie (Ruedinger) Cleveland. He worked as a carpenter building homes in the area and for East Bay most recently.

John was a good son, brother and uncle who struggled with alcohol addiction throughout much of his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing; often taking his beloved nieces out fishing with him. He was also a gifted gardener, cultivating a large vegetable garden for many years.

John is survived by his loving mother, Marie Cleveland; sisters, Laurie (Thomas) Kleinschmidt and Judy Cleveland; nieces, Keli Kleinschmidt, Ashley (Harley) Schultz and Chrissy Hoff; great-nephew, Gavin Svacina; his beloved cats and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Russell; siblings, Russell Jr., Pat, Kathy and Margaret; paternal grandparents, Clayton and Erna Cleveland; and maternal grandparents, Norbert and Netta Kraimer.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Helke Funeral Home. Father Robert Thorn of Holy Name of Jesus Parish will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
