John Hagenbucher, 78, of Wausau died Monday, February 27, 2017 at Atrium Acute Care Center under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born in Chicago on February 23, 1939 to the late Raymond and Rosemary (Doheney) Hagenbucher. John graduated from Wausau High School in 1957 and then served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his return from the service, John attended NTC, graduated as a Draftsman and began his career with Becher-Hoppe Engineers. On November 18, 1961 he married Carol Lewis at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau.
John later became a registered Land Surveyor working for over 44 years at Becher-Hoppe. He was a longtime member of Wausau Eagles Aerie #251, serving as a trustee for many years and was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2009. John was also a member of the Men of Honor Society. Hunting and guns were John's greatest passion, besides his grandchildren. He was a DNR Master Hunter Education Instructor for 40 years, having taught more than 7800 students, including his wife and grandchildren. John taught gun safety at Treehaven for U.W. Stevens Point for the Women in the Outdoors program for 20 years. John also belonged to many other organizations and clubs that involved guns, gun safety and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carol of Wausau, four sons, Thomas (Jackie) of Eau Claire, Donald (Mary Kay) of Marathon, Michael (Kelly) of Kronenwetter, Patrick (Shannon) of Mosinee, seven grandsons, Travis, Jordan, Elliott, Mason, Jonathan, Hayden and Jacob, one granddaughter, McKinley, four brothers, Gerald (Betty) of Mosinee, Thomas (Lilah) of Mosinee, Edward (Kathy) of Wausau, William (Jeannie) of Rothschild and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Langley Suzanne, parents, parents-in-law, Leonard and Ruth Lewis, daughter-in-law, Cindy (Fosbender) Hagenbucher, sister, Elinor (Lawrence) Berndt and sister-in-law, Barbara (Theadore) Betts.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1104 S. 9th Ave., Wausau. Father Robert Thorn will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
