John Jorgensen Jr

September 6, 1927 — December 6, 2013

John Jorgensen Jr., 86, of the town of Maine passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at Marathon City Assisted Living under Ministry Hospice Care.
He was born September 6, 1927 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to the late John and Rose (Vybrial) Jorgensen Sr. In his younger years, John worked on the family farm until moving to the town of Maine. In 1946, John served with the Army Military Police in post war Germany until his discharge in 1947. In June of that year he married Lois Nass in the town of Maine. They raised three children, John, Denise and Carla in their town of Maine home. John volunteered as the town of Maine fire warden, served as past commander and member of Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203 while working for Green Bay Packaging. He retired after 26 years of service and had served as past president of Paper Workers Local 631. John was a wonderful husband, Dad and just a nice man who made friends everywhere he went. He had the honor of being selected one of ten Outstanding Senior Citizens of Wisconsin in 1996. John will be forever remembered for his absolute love of woodcarving and woodworking. He began his hobby at the age of 8. Every time he started carving a new block of Butternut wood, John would say; "It's in there!" Over the years he has given away hundreds of tiny fawns, wooden pliers and wood/marble games to friends he met along the way. John was an active member of Wesley United Methodist church where he was an usher for 60 years, communion stewart for 21 years, Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, participated in the Hilltoppers and served on many committees at the church for over 63 years. He also found it important to preserve the craft of rope making for the current generation by giving demonstrations at schools, scouting events, county fairs and the Log Jam festival.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Lois of the town of Maine, son, John (Holly) Jorgensen of Weston, two daughters, Denise (Jeff) Radloff of Merrill, Carla Boechler of Shorewood, seven grandchildren, Travis, Austin, Paul, Sarah, Jamus and Gregor Boechler, Marcus (Amy) Radloff, one brother, Donald (Delores) Jorgensen of Scottsbluff, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph and sister, Emily Toman.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday December 21, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1101 Elm St., Wausau. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tim Vanden Langenberg officiating. Services will conclude with full military honors conducted by Mar-Lin VFW Post 10203.
