John Edward Mikul, 95, of Wausau passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at Aspirus Hospice House.
He was born September 4, 1916 in Cudahy to the late Thomas and Mary (Fiala) Mikulencak. The family moved to Goodrich when he was a child and farmed there. Growing up John farmed and worked in logging camps. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the South Pacific as a medic during WWII. John was a lifetime member of VFW Burns Post #388. After the war, he attended Northwestern Bible College for three years. John then moved back to Goodrich where he taught Sunday school for many years at Goodrich Community Church. He sang in a quartet in his younger years and always enjoyed singing hymns of praise to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On June 27, 1953, John married Eleanor Nuernberger in Medford. They raised three sons, John, Tom and Ed. John enjoyed sharing with the boys his lifelong love for hunting, fishing and camping. While raising his family, he worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Skelgas.
Survivors include two sons, John (Karen) Mikul of Arbor Vitae, Ed (Sue) Mikul of Merrill, daughter-in-law, Patricia Mikul of Birnamwood, nine grandchildren, Hannah, April, Daniel, Grace, Melany, Juli, Laura, Sarah, Amy (Mauricio) Chavarria and two sisters, Mary Buch of Wausau, Rose Mikulencak of Goodrich. John was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, son, Tom, sister, Anna Macik and three brothers, Joseph, Tony and Frank.
Funeral services will be Noon, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Wausau. Dr. James Engle and Rev. David Elleman will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with full military honors performed by VFW Burns Post #388. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
