John Whitmore, 78, of

at Colonial Manor Medical and
Rehabilitation
Center
under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice services.
John was born
November 11, 1929
in the town of
Wausau
to the late Edward and Emma (Dehnke) Whitmore. He married Clara Golz on
September 16, 1950
in
Wausau
. Clara preceded him in death on
March 30, 1981
.
John served in the United States Army 82
nd
Airborne Reserve during the 1950’s.
He worked for the Wausau Daily Herald as a lithographer for many years before retiring.
John was an avid gardener, a member of the Marathon County Gladiolus Society, and for many years operated Whitmore Floral.
Survivors include two daughters; Barbara (Lee Huempfner) Whitmore of Milwaukee and Lori (Charles Gonzales) Whitmore of Madison; two brothers, Gerald Whitmore of
Minneapolis
,
MN
, and Franklin Whitmore of
Wausau
; one brother-in-law, Elroy Lawonn of
Wausau
, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by one daughter Juli; two brothers, Gordon and Roger two sisters; Elaine Lawonn and Irene Pyun and his cat JoJo.
Funeral services will be
6:00 PM
Thursday, October 30, 2008
at the Helke Funeral Home,
Wausau
.
The Reverend Matthew Hein will be officiating.
Burial will be in
Pine
Grove
Cemetery
