Josephine Peavey

October 16, 1911 — June 8, 2011

Josephine was born October 16, 1911, in Mears, MI, the daughter of the late John and Francis (Grenkowitz) Matalas. On January 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Theodore S. Peavey. Together they made their home in Wausau. After her retirement from WI River Supply Company in 1976, they enjoyed many years together until his death in 1991.

Jo was an active woman, who participated in bowling, softball and loved to cook and watch cardinals. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers.

At the age of 99, Josephine Helen Peavey died peacefully, in her home, with her caregivers by her side, on June 8, 2011.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, including many nieces and nephews; her devoted caregivers; and other dear neighbors and friends.

A sincere thank you to the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice staff for the outstanding care given provided to Jo.

The family will receive guests at the Helke Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 10th, with sharing and prayers at 7:00 p.m. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11th, for burial at at Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan, WI, at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at Jan's Place in Alma Center.
