Joyce Albers, 81, of Wausau , died Tuesday October 6, 2009 on her birthday at Aspirus Wausau Hospital .



Joyce was born
October 6, 1928 in Wausau to the late Roland and Margaret (Brummond) Zerneke. She married Thomas Albers on August 28, 1954 in Wausau . Joyce earned her B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and taught at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids . Joyce and her husband split their time between Wausau and Gulf Shores , Alabama for 22 years, where she enjoyed the bridge clubs and the friendships she made there. Joyce was a member of the Wisconsin Club. She enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively all over the world.



Joyce is survived by her husband Thomas of Wausau, 4 children; Sandra Albers of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Pamela (Kieron) Wiley of Australia, Judith Sarafin of Eldridge, Ia., and Clark (Jacqueline) Albers of Marshfield, 2 grandchildren; Anne and Rachel Sarafin, 2 sisters; Ellen (Virgil) Roeder of Phoenix, Az., Karen (Leif) Nestingen of Minneapolis, Minn., and 2 brothers; Roland (Peggy) Zerneke and William (Beth) Zerneke both of Wausau.


Joyce was preceded in death by one sister Marilyn Schiefelbein.



Memorial services will be
11 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church in Weston. The Reverend Sid Bouldin will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Wausau Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
