Joyce Lavon Howe, 80, of Wausau, passed away in Zephyrhills, Florida, on Sunday March 13, 2016.
She was born to Frank and Irma (Staadt) Burzinski on January 2, 1936, in the town of Weston, and grew up in the area including Rothschild and Wausau. She graduated from Wausau High School. She married Norman Howe on June 3, 1961 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
Joyce worked at St. Mary's Hospital in the Pediatrics Department, as a Librarian at St. Matthew's Grade School and Newman High School, and at the Salvation Army Store. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and of the Circle of Joy.
Joyce will be remembered for her humor and as an outgoing person. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, watching high school sports, and most of all the New York Yankees. You could also find her enjoying the Wausau Timbers and working the concession stand. Along with Norman, they both enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and visiting relatives.
Survivors include her husband, Norman of Wausau; children, Michael (Heather) Howe of Houston, TX, and Susan (Jim) Gould of Wausau; grandchildren, Cory and Devin Howe and B.J. and Randie, all of Houston, TX, and Blaine and Tanner Gould of Wausau; sister, Mary Burzinski of Greenwood; brother, Gordon (Carol) Burzinski of Rothschild; many nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Marsha Hoff, Claire Dernbach, Cheryl Sherony, James Howe, Rita Schuerman, Rose Hintz, and Charles Howe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irma; sister, Helen Burzinski; brothers, Victor Buzinski and Bob Burzinski; and brother-in-law, Paul Howe.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at St. Matthew Parish, 221 S. 28th Ave., Wausau, with Rev. Robert Thorn officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and again at the church on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter.
