Joyce Pearl Weiss, age 90, was called by the Lord to her eternal home on April 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on October 16, 1925 in Wausau , WI to Otto and Ida (Sparby) Kmen. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1943.
On May 1, 1948 she married the love of her life, Edward J. Weiss. Together they raised two sons and spent 55 years being each other's best friend. She worshiped at First English Lutheran Church in Wausau and was employed as the church secretary until her retirement.
After retirement, Joyce and Eddie moved to Venice FL where they spent 22 years together enjoying the Florida sunshine. When Eddie passed away in 2004, Joyce returned to Wausau to spend time with her family and friends. Living on her own was a new experience, but the Condo community welcomed her with open arms and she loved living in her new home. She enjoyed spending time with her son Jim and daughter-in-law Kaye but her most cherished times were those spent with her grandsons Andrew and Matthew. She taught them to play 500 rummy the (WWGD – "What would Grandma do") way. Andrew learned to position himself before her so he had a chance to pick up the pile! She shared many lunches with grandson Matthew while he worked at Van Ert.
Joyce cherished the visits from her son Tom and his wife Laurel who visited multiple times a year and was always ready to fuss over them to make them feel special.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Jim (Kaye) Weiss, Wausau, Tom (Laurel) Weiss, Powell, OH, two grandsons Andrew Weiss, Wausau, Matthew (Emily) Weiss, St. Point. She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Ida Kmen, husband Edward and two sisters Gladys Morgan and Ruth Kruzan.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Thursday May 12th at 11 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, 402 North 3rd Ave, Wausau with Pastor Erik Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
A special thank you to the caring staff at Wausau Manor and Asera Hospice Care.
