When you think of the outdoors, you think of Ken Laessig. Whether he was hunting deer, fishing for Walleyes or simply enjoying the sunrise from the hunting shack, Ken loved being surrounded by nature.
He extended his outdoor passion by learning how to wood carve, especially birds.
Ken was born July 27, 1942 in Stratford to Bonnie (Smith) Laessig of Stratford and the late Lloyd Laessig. He graduated from Stratford High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966. On December 17, 1966, he married Bonnie Borchardt at St. John’s Lutheran Church, town of Wien. While raising their family in Wausau, Ken worked at Imperial Industries, Mosinee. He retired in 2008 as manager of the storeroom after 22 years of service.
At the age of 68, Ken passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Rothschild, son, Kent (Connie) Laessig of Wausau, daughter, Lori (Jesse Ladwig) Laessig of Wausau, two grandsons, Connor and Karlen- who were his pride and joy, his mother, Bonnie Laessig of Stratford, brother, Randy (Barb) Laessig of Marshfield and sister, Betty Schwebke of Denton, Tx. Ken was further preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry Borchardt and brother-in-law, Wendell Schwebke.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Rothschild. Rev. Richard Block will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
