Kent Zak

October 13, 1950 — December 26, 2014

Kent E. Zak, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI. He was born on October 13, 1950, in DeKalb, IL, the son of the late Frank M. and Lila I. (Kivisto) Zak. On November 26, 2005, he married the love of his life, Gail Haebig, in DeKalb, IL, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Kent was employed by GTE in Illinois for 36 years as manager of numerous departments.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; son, Justin (Angie) Zak; daughter, Nyree Zak; five granddaughters, Peyton, Taylor, Reilly, and Milena Zak, and Kylie Laska; step-sons, Matt (Jess) Laska and Jason (Sherry) Laska; sister, Donna Rae (Robert) Ewing; sisters-in-law, Linda and Karin Zak; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Kent was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" E. and John E. Zak; and granddaughter, Meagan A. Zak. Kent was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, C. R. "Bob" and Irene Haebig.

Kent's favorite times were spent with all of his granddaughters of whom he was very proud. Each one has given him special memories that he has always treasured. Kent was an avid NASCAR fan and loved watching the races, also was a member of the slot car racing group H.O. Racers of Rockford (HORROC), which he enjoyed doing with his son and granddaughter, Meagan. He also enjoyed watching football games. Kent loved traveling to Jamaica and boating with Ron and Ellen.

A memorial visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 North First St., DeKalb, IL, beginning with visitation at 9:30-11:30 a.m. and service following at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Katie Gallagher will be officiating.
