Laura Seehafer

Laura Seehafer passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Woodland Court Elder Service, Merrill.

Laura was born January 14, 1923 to the late August and Bertha (Kraege) Grosinske, Birnamwood. She was number twelve in a family of thirteen children and the only survivor. Laura married Herbert Seehafer, Town of Stettin, on August 25, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Laura graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1940, Marathon County Normal in 1942 and Stevens Point College in 1961 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught 6 years in rural schools, then in 1948 transferred to Schofield Elementary School where she remained until her retirement in 1987, a total of 43 ½ years. She held a lifetime membership in the WEA and NEA teacher's
associations.

For 7 years before her marriage she and her sister, Helen, had a ½ hour show on radio stations WSAU, Wausau and WILN, Merrill. They were known as "Pat and Ginger." They also had guests shows on 3 other radio stations.

After her marriage, she joined Trinity Lutheran Church, Stettin, where she became organist in January, 1950. She organized the church choir and enjoyed working with them for many years.

She is survived by a son, Brian (Pam) of Merrill and a daughter, Kristi Seehafer of Nashville, Tennessee. She is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM and last until 7:00 PM on Monday, June 13 at Helke Funeral Home; resuming on Tuesday at 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Pastor Phil Bogen will conduct the services. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Town of Texas.
