Lavern Krause

February 6, 1928 — September 24, 2009

Lavern Krause, 81, Wausau, died surrounded by his loving family at his home on Thursday, September 24, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Lavern Gustav Krause was born February 6, 1928 in Merrill to the late Gustav and Elsie (Berndt) Krause. He met the love of his life, Lynette Marion Schulz, while roller skating and the two were married in Merrill on May 7, 1949. To this union were born three children; Brian, Cheryl and Linda. Lavern and Lynette celebrated 60 wonderful years together earlier this year.

Lavern faithfully served his country in the Navy early in life before working for Wergin for many years as an ironworker and retiring as a supervisor. He was a good father who often looked forward to taking the family camping and fishing during the summers and snowmobiling during the winters. Lavern would often get home from work on a Friday afternoon and drive to Colorado for a weekend of deer hunting.

After retiring, he and Lynette spent 17 winters enjoying the Arizona warmth. They loved to travel together in their motor home and sailing on cruises. After years of hunting and fishing were over, Lavern discovered a passion for golf which he enjoyed for many years. Lavern had a quiet and peaceful way about him but when he spoke he was direct and to the point, filled with wisdom and a great sense of humor. Lavern will be greatly missed by his family and all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Lavern is survived by his beloved wife, Lynette; son, Brian (Linda) Krause; daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Yach and Linda (Bill) McCabe; grandchildren, Jessica (Rich) Nishiura, Shawn Krause, Chris Krause, Amy (Brian) McCabe, Andy (Rachel) Yach, Mindy (Dan) Arndt and Mitch McCabe; great-grandchildren, Cole, Chloe, Samantha, Connor, Caiden and Brody; and sister, Ruth Mueller.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wausau. Pastor Bruce Lamont will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM and last until 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Entombment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites performed by American Legion Post #10. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.
