LaVerne Steffen

March 26, 1928 — November 1, 2013

LaVerne was born March 28th 1928, to the late Edward and Margaret (Smith) Layton, in New Brunswick, NJ. She met Richard Steffen during World War II on a military base in New Jersey, where she was employed and he was an active soldier. The couple was united in marriage on December 18th 1948 and returned to Wausau, where Richard born and raised. LaVerne worked as a nurse's aide at Aspirus Hospital for many years.

Most important to LaVerne was her love of the Lord. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to not only her family, but all who came to know her. LaVerne belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau, where she was an active member of the Concordia Guild. She will be greatly missed by her extended church family.

On November 1st 2013, LaVerne Lois Steffen, left her earthly home to be born into new life, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice services, at home, surrounded by her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Laura Steffen and Richard Steffen; six grandchildren, Robert, Jason, Jessica, Aaron, Noelle, and Lily; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Lois Heil. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on November 13th 1986.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 8th, at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau. Family will receive guests on Friday, at church, from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
