LaVora "Poncho"Rasmussen, 82, of Wausau passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by her children.
She was born May 7, 1930 in Wausau to the late Reuben and Caroline (Kottke) Goetsch. Poncho was a graduate of Wausau High School. On August 22, 1953 she married Clarence Rasmussen at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. While raising their five children, Poncho worked at Montgomery Wards, then for the Performing Arts Foundation, and retired as an administrative assistant in the Goal Lab at North Central Technical College. Poncho will be remembered for the love and care and always being there for her family. She especially loved the times she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included solving the daily crossword puzzles, shopping, canning, gardening, baking her famous Christmas cookies and fudge and taking care of her backyard birds. Poncho and her sister-in-law, Sharon Goetsch had their favorite times together at Sharon's cottage, going for weekly fish frys and playing cards, listening to music and people watching at the county fair. Poncho volunteered at Bethesda and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She helped at Strassenfest, decorated cookies for the annual bake sale, cut many squares for donated quilts and helped on the funeral lunches.
Poncho is survived by her five children, Carrie (Dan) Nordgren of Mosinee, Todd (Sue) Rasmussen of Wausau, Thomas (Diana) Rasmussen of Wausau, Timothy (fiancée-Carol) Rasmussen of Wausau, Beth (Dan) Porter of Rothschild, thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Virgine (Bob) White of Schofield, Evelyn Johnston of St. Paul, MN, two sisters-in-law, Sharon Goetsch of Wausau, Irene Goetsch of Wausau and a brother-in-law, Robert (Donna) Rasmussen of Beloit. Poncho was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on October 12, 1985, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 6th St., Wausau. Reverend Ted Gulhaugen will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
