Leila Mae Balz, 85, of Weston died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at her home.
She was born July 29, 1922 in the town of Maine to the late Edmund and Eulalia (Arndt) Woller. On October 5, 1940, Leila married James Jackson, Sr. in Wausau. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1967. She married Emil Balz on February 20, 1971 in Wausau. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1982. Leila was an accomplished seamstress working for several Wausau area bridal shops. She enjoyed gardening, painting, playing the piano and singing along with Emil in the Balz Brothers Band.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Jakel of Schofield, Janis (LaVern) Mootz of Mosinee, Betty Rawson of Wausau, one son, James Jackson, Jr. of Madison, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one brother, Dave Woller of Tucson, AZ., 4 step sons and 3 step daughters. Leila was further preceded in death by a brother Orval Woller and sister, Eulalia Roehl.
Funeral services will be 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Reverend Matthew Hein of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
