Leo Holewinski

August 15, 1913 — March 21, 2015

Leo Holewinski, 101, of Hatley passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Clare's Hospital.
He was born August 15, 1913 in Pulaski to the late Julius and Julia (Tyczkowski) Holewinski. On October 5, 1935 Leo married Victoria Glapinski at St. Florian's Catholic Church, Hatley. They dairy farmed in Hatley for many years. Leo began his career at the DC Everest school district as a school bus driver and later as a custodian for the high school until his retirement. He also worked as a custodian at St. Florian school and church. In his earlier years, Leo was an active member of St. Florian and also a member of the Holy Name Society. For many years, he was sexton of the church cemetery and dug graves by hand. His past times included hunting, carpentry and gardening. Leo was known for his gift of being a dowser (water witching). He thoroughly enjoyed helping his friends, neighbors and church locate fresh clean well water.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Holewinski of Wausau, Suzanne (Ronald) Raasch of Hatley, son, Aldred (Sandra) Holewinski of Bradenton, FL, five grandchildren, Denise (Dan) Kellner, Annette (Jeff) Schaupp, Vickie (Brad) Varsho, Phillip (Darla Plaster) Holewinski, Jonathan (Andrea Skubal) Holewinski, six great grandchildren, Dustin and Dalton Kellner, Marissa and Alexis Schaupp, Lauren and Julia Varsho and three brothers, Alvin (Florence) of Schofield, Stanley (Regina) of Manville, NJ, and Arthur (Shirley) of Milwaukee. Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria and three brothers, Ray, Emil and Florian.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015 St. Florian's Catholic Church, Hatley. Father Greg Bohren will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
