Mr. Leonard “Len” Edmund Mroczenski, 82, of Marathon, died November 5, 2009, at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau.
Len was born May 19, 1927, in Athens, WI, the son of the late John and Tillie (Lipinski) Mroczenski. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Len met Eleanor Kruesel at a dance at the Rib River Ballroom and the couple was later married on September 2, 1950, in Marathon. The couple welcomed four children; Jim, Dave, Glenn and Joan to the family. Len and Eleanor celebrated 59 wonderful years together prior to his death.
Len worked very hard throughout his life, from owning and operating his own rendering truck, owning and operating Len’s Shoe Repair, raising ginseng, to working as the shop manager for Ming’s Ginseng. He also served as the fire chief and as a part time police officer of Marathon.
Len was the sort of man who could walk up to anyone and strike up a conversation. He was known for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and had an answer for everything. Len would go the extra mile to help anyone with a problem. Being an amateur inventor, he could take any idea and turn it into a finished product. On Saturday’s, Len and Eleanor were the first ones to church for 4:00 p.m. mass. He often said, “It took a real man to get the back pew.”
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 59 years, Eleanor; 4 children, Jim (Diane) Mroczenski, Marathon, Dave (Irene) Mroczenski, Marathon, Glenn (Gayle) Mroczenski, Marathon, and Joan (Bruce) Bottolfson, New Richmond, WI; 8 grandchildren, Tom (Becky) Mroczenski, Wausau, Joe (Heather) Mroczenski, Marathon, Luke Mroczenski, Weston, Matt (Amanda) Mroczenski, Farmington, MN, Deanna Mroczenski, St. Paul, MN, Justin Mroczenski, Appleton, WI, Kelsey Bottolfson, New Richmond, WI, and Taylor Bottolfson, New Richmond, WI; 7 great-grandchildren, Ellie, Josh, Will, Katrina, Colton, Caroline, and Isabel; brother, Frank (Adeline) Mroczenski, Marathon; and sister, Marcella (Allen) Leiterman, Marathon.
