LeRoy Rhyner

February 26, 1921 — April 19, 2014

LeRoy Rhyner, 93, of Wausau, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Mount View Care Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born on February 26, 1921, to Roy and Mary (Welling) Rhyner in the town of Texas. LeRoy attended school at Twin Oaks School in the town of Texas. He grew up in and was a life-long resident of the area.

LeRoy was in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Engineers serving from 1941 until 1945, during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines and Guam, where he helped build and repair air strips during the war. In 1946 he married Emogene Anderson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine River. They dairy farmed for 28 years in the town of Texas. After farming LeRoy drove truck for local companies.

He enjoyed fishing and took a memorable trip to Canada. He liked to make firewood and wood cutting, and the time in the woods that went along with it.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Emogene; children, Bonnie Ray of Schofield, Doreen (David) Moll of Wausau, Larry (Sandy) Rhyner of Wausau, Randall (Diane) Rhyner of Wausau, Julie (Patrick) Esker of Withee, Laura (Robert) Robinson of Three Lakes, and Daniel (Angel) Rhyner of Wausau; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Delores); and two sisters, Betty Jane (William) Prosser and Marjorie (Robert) Thorne.

He was preceded in death by grandson, Joshua Rhyner; four brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law, Nick Ray.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Restlawn Memorial Chapel, 4710 N. Troy St., town of Texas, with Rev. Gregory Laska officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, April 23, beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the chapel. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Chapel Mausoleum.
