Lester Crochiere

June 12, 1929 — June 5, 2008

Lester Crochiere, 78, Schofield, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at his home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice after fighting a year long battle with mesothelioma.

Lester was born June 12, 1929 to the late Ervin and Elsie (Bauman) Crochiere in Marathon City. Lester served his country in the Air Force 1946-49. Lester married Darlene Crochiere in 1951 and the couple remained together until 1987. To this union were born daughters, Penny and Cindi. Lester remarried July 11, 1998 to Caroline Budnick at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Schofield, and their family was enlarged with her children; Gayle, Karen, Diane, Jerome, and Bruce. Lester and Caroline celebrated nine wonderful years together prior to his passing.

Throughout his life, Lester had a strong work ethic and was always ready to help when needed. He worked for Weyerhauser for thirty-five years working in stock prep. Lester was always a very good gardener, being meticulous in picking every weed and making sure every row was arrow straight. Later in life, he planted a garden in the shape of a heart for Caroline. Lester loved all of his children and treated all equally whether they be step children or in-laws. He especially delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. In their free time, Lester and Caroline loved to travel all across the United States and most of all they loved to dance together.

Lester is survived by his loving wife, Caroline; daughters, Penny (Kurt Barger) Crochiere of Eau Claire and Cindi (Fred) Will of Schofield; step-children, Gayle Koppa of Schofield, Karen (Al) Nikolia of Mosinee, Diane Buchkoski of Mosinee, Jerome (Cheryl) Buchkoski of Sioux Falls, SD, and Bruce Buchkoski of Wausau; grandchildren, Damion Skerhutt, Melissa Will, and Amber Will; great-grandson, Mason Skerhutt; eight step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Crochiere of Rib Mountain; sisters, Jeanette (Ed) Brushafer of Fon Du Lac and Norma Grasmick of Wausau; and many more nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Gary Schultz will be officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Helke Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service Monday at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10 will provide military rites at the cemetery.

Lester's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice especially to Lester's favorite nurse, Anna.
