Lester R. Rusch, 95, of Wausau, passed away under the care of North Central Health Care – Gardenside Crossing, on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
He was born at home in the town of Maine on May 20, 1920, to Emil and Alvina (Wilke) Rusch. Lester grew up on the family farm and attended the nearby country school. He graduated from Merrill High School. He married Delores Goetsch on July 20, 1946 at Faith Lutheran Church in the town of Maine. Lester began his career as a blacksmith at the Anderson Brothers and Johnson quarry. He retired from 3M Corporation after more than 30 years of service as a millwright.
Lester will be remembered for his dedication to his faith and family and his strong work ethic. He was very involved with the Properties Ministry and maintenance at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League, a men's morning Bible study, and volunteered for the Orphan Grain Train collections and fish boils at St. Mark's. Lester enjoyed maintaining a perfectly manicured yard. He and Delores took many trips throughout the United States and abroad. The family has many fond memories of camping trips in the big green tent.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Wausau; children, Audrey (Jerry) Tomcek of Aniwa, Leon (Connie) Rusch of Irving, TX, and Julie (Robert) Waterman of Wausau; grandchildren, Greg Krass of St. Louis, MO, Melanie (Ryan) Kennedy of Wausau, Adam (Kelly) Rusch of Austin, TX, and Caitlin (Kevin) Fetherston of Whitefish Bay; and great-grandchildren, Cole and Olivia Kennedy, Ella Rusch, and baby Kyan Fetherston due in May.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Alvina; grandson, Erik Rusch; granddaughter-in-law, Betty Krass; brothers, Arthur and Ervin; sister, Mildred; brother-in-law, Kenneth Goetsch; and sister-in-law, Ruth Rusch.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Dr., Wausau, with Rev. James Wiebel officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine.
