Wausau, Wisconsin

Lila Mae Gwidt, 84, passed away quietly in her home on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Lila was born on May 16, 1940 to Elmer and Ada (Levin) Vetterkind in the township of Reseburg, WI. She graduated from Thorp High School in 1958. After high school, she moved to Wausau with a close family friend and became a nanny for their children. From there, she went to work at the Marathon Battery Shop. There she met her husband, Wallace “Wally” Gwidt. They married in 1962. Over the next 11 years, they would go on to have three children. She became a stay-at-home mom from 1971 until 1978 and went back to work at Kolbe & Kolbe for 33 years.

Lila loved being at home with her family. She spent time planting flowers and tending her large garden. She was a great baker and enjoyed canning and making homemade jams. Most of all, she loved being a grandma. She loved taking care of all eight of her grandchildren. She would have them for sleepovers, pick them up from school, attend their events, and enjoy the holidays with them.

Lila had a deep faith in the Lord. She attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wausau, WI since 1964. Her faith carried her through joyous times and hardships. Especially when she went through breast cancer in 1996. She successfully beat it and was cancer free for 28 years. She participated in the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure walks with her family for several years.

She is survived by her daughters Wanda (Thomas) Woehlert, Gwen (Jae) Loiz and son, Terry (Tracy) Gwidt. Grandchildren: Heather (Dustin) Schmudlach, Jill Loiz, Ashley (Matt) VanDenHeuvel, Kelsey (Casey) Lueck, Jesse (Tiernee) Loiz, Emily (Trevor) Cunningham, Brandon Gwidt, and Riley Gwidt; great grandchildren: Breanna and Lila Schmudlach, Kim VanDenHeuvel, Avery Lueck and Barrett Loiz; her sisters, Jane Elwood, Jean Larson (Lyn Marquardt) and brothers, Leonard (Marilyn) Vetterkind, Glen (Diane) Vetterkind and Vernon (Donna) Vetterkind; God-sons Patrick and Jeffrey Casalez; sister-in-law’s Dorothy Poulos, Barb Gwidt, and Cecilia Gwidt; brothers-in-laws John Jr. (Donna) Gwidt, Roger Gwidt, Frank (Jan) Gwidt,
